
UditVani, Jamshedpur: A dented tusker was found dead in Baihatu village under the Tonto police station area of West Singhbhum district on Wednesday, triggering concern among forest officials and local residents.
According to preliminary information, villagers noticed the elephant lying motionless near the settlement and immediately informed the forest department.
A team of forest officials reached the spot and began initial investigations.
The cause of death is yet to be ascertained, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine whether the tusker died due to natural causes, electrocution, poaching, or any other reason.
Forest authorities have secured the area and are questioning locals as part of the inquiry.
Senior officials said further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over human–elephant conflict in the forested regions of West Singhbhum.
