
Udit Vani, Jamshedpur : Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi chaired a high-level meeting on traffic and road safety at the collectorate building in Jamshedpur today.
Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey, ADM Law & Order Aniket Sachan, City SP Kumar Shivashish, SDMs of Dhalbhum and Ghatshila, and other key departmental officials participated.
Key decisions included mandatory installation of sliding barriers, rumble strips, blinkers, and road signage at accident-prone spots. Fuel stations were directed not to supply petrol to two-wheeler riders without helmets.
The DC instructed officials to ensure compensation for 27 pending hit-and-run cases is paid within 90 days, and emphasized coordination among departments to ease documentation for victims’ families.
To encourage the timely aid of accident victims during the “Golden Hour,” the administration reiterated the Rs 5,000 incentive for Good Samaritans, with a guarantee of no legal complications for them.
A review of recent accidents revealed that overspeeding, wrong-side driving, and roadside parking on highways were major causes.
NHAI and road construction department officials were directed to take preventive measures, including installation of mirrors at blind curves and safety reflectors.
In May alone, 29 road accidents led to 24 deaths and 12 injuries. Additionally, 312 driving licenses were suspended and Rs 22 lakh collected in fines for traffic rule violations. A total of 3,346 new licenses were issued.
Officials from DTO, JNAC, police, Tata Steel, Jusco, and the Jamshedpur Bus Association members also attended the meeting.
