
UditVani, Jamshedpur : CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, under its Centre of Excellence (CoE) funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, organized a Workshop-cum-Training Programme for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Allied Industries on the theme “Corrosion and Wear Resistant Coating Technology.”
The one-day programme aimed to enhance awareness, technical knowledge, and skill development among MSME professionals in the area of advanced surface engineering and protective coating technologies.
The event offered valuable insights into coating techniques, material selection, performance evaluation, and industrial applications to extend component life and improve reliability.
More than 35 participants from leading MSMEs and industries including Emdet Jamshedpur Pvt. Ltd., New Era Company, Shiva Inorganics, Valour Wires Pvt. Ltd., Mica Mold, Accropoly Metal Pvt. Ltd., Garg Engineers Pvt. Ltd., Promis Industry, Furnace Energy, MetaFab, Tata BlueScope, Khetan Udyog, and Tata Motors, attended the workshop.

Delivering the welcome address on behalf of Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML, S. Sivaprasad, Senior-most Chief Scientist, Head-MTE & Advisor-HRG, highlighted the vital role of advanced coating technologies in enhancing the durability and sustainability of industrial components.
He emphasized stronger collaboration between research institutions and industries for technology transfer and skill development.
Raghuvir Singh, Head of the Advanced Materials and Corrosion (AMC) Division and Coordinator of the programme, outlined the activities of the Centre of Excellence on Wear and Corrosion Resistant Coating Technology at CSIR-NML.
He underlined the Centre’s focus on addressing the specific challenges faced by MSMEs through scientific innovation and technological interventions.
Shailendra K. Jha, Convener of the programme, delivered the vote of thanks and presented a technical talk on “The Role of Surface Finishing Operations and Electroplating in Industry.”
He shared practical insights on troubleshooting issues in electroplated components and the importance of quality surface finishing in improving industrial productivity.
The participants also gained hands-on exposure through laboratory demonstrations on Electroplating, Hot-dip Coating, HVOF, Wear and Erosion Testing, Primer and Paint Applications, and Corrosion Analysis Techniques including Polarization, Salt-Spray, and Weight-Loss Testing.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session and certificate distribution ceremony, where participants appreciated CSIR-NML’s continued efforts in supporting MSMEs through specialized training, knowledge sharing, and technical consultancy.
Through this initiative, CSIR-NML reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovation, sustainability, and technological excellence in India’s MSME ecosystem and allied industries.
