UditVani, Jamshedpur : National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR–NML), Jamshedpur, has launched a five-day corporate training programme titled “Analysis of Raw Materials and Metallurgical By-products of the Steel Industry (ARMBIS-2025)”, aimed at strengthening analytical and characterization capabilities of professionals from the steel sector. The programme is being conducted at the CSIR–NML campus from December 15 to 19.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR–NML, who underlined the critical role of effective utilization of steel plant by-products in achieving sustainability.
Emphasizing zero-emission targets and circular economy practices, he highlighted the importance of advanced chemical analysis and materials characterization in supporting national sustainability goals for the steel industry.
Participants were welcomed by Dr. Alok Kumar Meher, Scientist and Co-ordinator of ARMBIS-2025. An overview of the programme objectives and structure was presented by Dr. Sanchita Chakravarty, Head, Analytical & Applied Chemistry (AAC) Division, who explained that the training modules are designed to address chemical analysis, advanced instrumental techniques, and real-world case studies with a focus on raw materials and metallurgical by-products.
Dr. S. Sivaprasad, Head, Materials Engineering Division, highlighted the significance of such industry-oriented programmes in fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and joint problem-solving between research institutions and steel plants.
The programme has drawn participation from professionals of Arcelor Mittal–Nippon Steel India and features hands-on training and expert lectures on advanced techniques such as ICP-OES, SEM-EDS, EPMA, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Interactive sessions with CSIR–NML scientists working in ironmaking, alloy development, failure analysis, and mineral beneficiation form a key component of the schedule. Laboratory visits, along with pre- and post-training evaluations, are also part of the programme.
ARMBIS-2025 underscores CSIR–NML’s sustained commitment to industry engagement, skill development, and translational research, supporting the Indian steel industry in addressing analytical challenges and progressing towards more sustainable and efficient production practices.
The programme concluded its inaugural session with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Alok Kumar Meher.
