UditVani, Jamshedpur: Panic gripped the campus of XLRI Jamshedpur after the premier management institute received a threatening email claiming that the institute would be blown up with a bomb.
The email warning prompted an immediate security alert, with police and other security agencies launching an investigation.
According to sources, an unidentified person sent the threatening message via email, allegedly claiming that the attack would be carried out from a Pakistani airbase.
Soon after the message was received, the institute authorities informed the police, following which security agencies swung into action.
Police teams reached the campus and conducted a preliminary assessment of the situation.
Security in and around the institute has been tightened as a precautionary measure while investigators examine the email’s technical details to trace its origin.
Officials are attempting to identify the IP address and location from where the message was sent.
City SP Kumar Shivashish confirmed the institute had received an email threatening a bomb attack. “Initial investigation suggests that the email may have been sent as a prank or mischief, but the police are examining every possible angle,” he said.
Notably, similar threat messages had earlier been reported from courts and institutions in Ranchi, Dhanbad and Bokaro, prompting authorities to treat the matter seriously.
Police are now working to identify the sender of the email and determine whether it is linked to earlier threats.
The development has also heightened security vigilance in the city, especially as senior police officials, including the DIG, are currently in Jamshedpur for an ongoing crime review meeting.
