UditVani, Jamshedpur: Panic gripped the Marine Drive area under the Bistupur police station area on Tuesday after a 13-year-old girl was found wandering alone in suspicious circumstances.
The minor has been safely sheltered at Beldih Gram Basti, and the police have been informed about the incident.
According to local resident Ghanshyam Soy, the girl was seen roaming near the basti on Tuesday afternoon.
During this time, two youths on a motorcycle allegedly tried to forcibly make her sit on the bike. When residents noticed the act and raised an alarm, they rushed towards the girl, prompting the youths to flee the spot.
The girl told locals that she hails from Lepa village under the Musabani police station area. Her father has passed away, while her mother has remarried.
Her elder sister works outside the village. She further stated that a woman from her locality had taken her along on the pretext of meeting her mother and promised to take her to Chaibasa.
However, after reaching there, she was allegedly pressured into marriage, which frightened her and compelled her to escape.
While fleeing, the girl reached the Marine Drive area, where some youths allegedly attempted to take advantage of her vulnerable situation and tried to abduct her.
Due to the timely intervention and alertness of local residents, the girl was rescued and brought to safety.
Locals have alleged that despite being informed, the police did not reach the spot promptly, even though Marine Drive is considered a sensitive area.
However, the minor is currently safe, and the police have been notified to initiate further legal proceedings. The police have begun an investigation into the matter.
