Event Overview
The Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) at NIT Jamshedpur organized a one-day invited talk on November 21, 2024. The event revolved around the theme of “Ancient Indian Science & Technology with Cow-Based Agriculture” and aimed to highlight sustainable agricultural practices rooted in traditional knowledge.
Welcoming the Esteemed Guest
The program began with a warm welcome for the invited speaker, Shri K. E. N. Raghawan. Deputy Director of the institute, Professor Ram Vinoy Sharma, introduced the distinguished guest and emphasized the relevance of the topic in modern agriculture’s quest for sustainable development. Shri Raghawan was felicitated with a memento and shawl by Professor Shalendra as a token of respect.
Insights from the Talk
In his address, Shri Raghawan delved into the historical decline of India’s education system and the erosion of self-sufficient rural models. He underscored the importance of cow-based farming for fostering self-reliant villages and sustainable rural development.
Shri Raghawan explained the benefits of organic farming techniques, including the use of organic manure, which offers health benefits at lower costs. He also highlighted how traditional agricultural methods contribute to self-employment opportunities and overall village development. His talk provided practical demonstrations of organic practices, leaving participants with a deeper understanding of sustainable farming’s impact on human and environmental health.
Participation and Impact
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Manish Kumar Jha, Convener of the IKS Centre. Around 120 participants, including students, faculty, and staff, attended the session. Students found the discussion on cow-based agriculture particularly enlightening, gaining valuable insights into its role in promoting rural development and self-sufficiency.
