UditVani, Jamshedpur: In view of the rising temperatures, the School Education and Literacy Department has announced revised timings for government primary and secondary schools across Jharkhand, effective from April 1.
As per the new schedule, classes in government primary and upper schools will now be conducted from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, replacing the existing timing of 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The change applies uniformly to both primary and secondary sections.
The decision comes as part of the annual transition to summer timings, aimed at safeguarding students from the intensifying heat during the later hours of the day.
School authorities have been granted flexibility to adjust arrival and dispersal times by 10 to 15 minutes based on local convenience and logistical factors.
The revised schedule is also expected to influence private institutions, many of which have decided to advance their timings.
Several private schools in and around Jamshedpur will begin operations as early as 6:30 AM from the same date.
Notably, the move follows a representation by the Akhil Jharkhand Primary Teachers’ Association, which had urged the department to reconsider school hours in light of the escalating temperatures across the state.
With summer setting in early this year, the revised timings are being seen as a necessary step to ensure the well-being and comfort of students, while maintaining the continuity of academic activities.
